This category splits cleanly in two and they behave nothing alike. Baby gear such as car seats and strollers is frequently subject to minimum advertised price policies, which keep discounts shallow and infrequent. So a 15% drop on a car seat is a genuinely significant event, where the same 15% on a toy would be background noise. Meanwhile the consumables side — diapers, wipes, formula — moves constantly, and the headline price is close to meaningless because pack sizes differ so much. We score the two halves on different terms, because scoring them the same way would be useless.

How we score baby

For gear, we score against the product's own discount history rather than against a percentage threshold, because MAP-protected products rarely show large reductions even when the price is genuinely good. A small drop on a car seat can score higher than a large drop elsewhere. For consumables, we score on price per unit rather than on the pack price, since pack sizes vary widely and headline discounts often reflect a larger pack rather than a better rate.
