Kitchen gear is where fake discounts go to damn well die. A stand mixer with a "list price" no damn person has paid since 2019. A knife set 60% off since the damn Obama administration. An air fryer on sale eleven straight months, which is not a sale, that's just the damn price. Kitchen appliance list prices are frequently fictional benchmarks that bear little relationship to the actual selling price. Which is a polite damn way of saying they're made up. We throw the list price in the bin and score against what the thing has genuinely sold for over its own damn lifetime.
How we damn well score kitchen
Small kitchen appliances follow a strong seasonal cycle — prices bottom out in November and stay soft through January. So a 30% drop in Black Friday week is nothing damn special, it's Tuesday. The same drop in April is rare as hell and scores much higher. We also weight sales rank heavily in this category, because build quality varies more between top-ranked brands and low-ranked clones in kitchen than in almost any other department. A cheap knife isn't a deal. It's a damn liability with a handle.

When is the best time to buy kitchen appliances?
Small kitchen appliances are cheapest between late November and mid-January, when seasonal discounting is deepest. Outside that window a good drop is genuinely rare, which is exactly why it scores higher on our damn scale.
Why do kitchen products show such large discounts year-round?
Many kitchen listings carry inflated reference prices that make routine pricing appear discounted. We ignore the reference price entirely. If a damn thing has sold at $49 for a year, $49 is the price, no matter what the strikethrough says.
Does a higher score mean a better product?
The score measures the quality of the price, not the quality of the product — but sales rank is one of the weighted inputs, so poorly-selling products are penalised. Meaning a big score on a no-name blender is damn near impossible to earn.
