Tool deals for people who own too many damn batteries
3,154 scanned · 710 made the damn board
Everybody in this category has the same damn problem. You've got four batteries on one platform and a drill that takes none of them. Cordless tool pricing is structured around battery platform lock-in, which means the headline price of a bare tool rarely reflects the true cost of ownership. A bare impact driver at 50% off is a hell of a deal if you're already in that damn ecosystem and a bad one if you're not, because now you're buying a $99 battery to run a $60 tool. We score the price. You have to know your own damn battery situation.
How we damn well score tools
Power tool prices cluster around three annual peaks in promotional activity: spring, Father's Day, and Black Friday. A drop in June is common as damn dirt. The same drop in February is rare and scores accordingly. We also treat kits and bare tools as genuinely separate products, because they are — a discount on a kit including batteries and a charger is not comparable to the same percentage off the bare tool. And we weight rank hard, because the damn gap between a real brand and a lookalike is measured in fingers.

Questions
When are power tools cheapest on Amazon?
Power tool discounting peaks three times a year — spring, Father's Day in June, and Black Friday. Deals outside those windows are rarer, so they earn a higher damn score from us.
Is a bare tool cheaper than a kit?
Bare tools have a lower sticker price but only make sense if you already own compatible batteries, which typically cost more than the tool itself. Work out your total damn cost before you get excited.
Do you score cordless and corded tools differently?
Yes — cordless tools are scored with battery platform context in mind, because the tool price alone can understate the real cost. Corded tools are simpler and score on price history alone, which is a damn refreshing change.
