Electronics deals, minus the damn end-of-life clearance

Electronics is the category where a discount most often means something's about to be replaced. Consumer electronics prices decline steadily across a product's lifecycle, so a large discount frequently signals an imminent successor model rather than an unusually good offer. Which is fine — an outgoing model at 40% off can be a genuinely smart buy — but you deserve to know which one you're looking at. A price falling because a product is being cleared is a different animal from a price falling because someone briefly got aggressive.

How we score electronics

Because electronics prices trend downward over time, we weight recency of the price history heavily — a product's lowest price from two years ago is not a meaningful benchmark for today. We compare against the recent trading range instead, and a drop only scores well if it breaks below where the product has actually been sitting lately. We also weight sales rank, which in electronics tends to separate current models from ones quietly being run down. A damn good score here means the price broke its own recent floor, not that it drifted to the bottom of a long slow slide.
