What the $100 to $200 band actually behaves like
Products at this price have long, dense price histories, which is good news: a fabricated reference price cannot hide behind thin data. It is also the band where genuine promotional discounting is deepest, because it is where retailers actually compete.
The trap here is the product cycle rather than the fake sale. A big discount on a model about to be replaced is not a bargain, it is a damn clearance, and our scorer treats a sustained lower price as the price — so those score low. Correct, and unpopular.
