Gifts under $25 for the damn office exchange

Twenty-five dollars is not a budget anybody chose. It is a cap somebody in HR wrote down, and once a year several million people go looking for something that clears it without looking like it barely damn well cleared it.

Which is exactly why this page starts at fifteen. A $3 item technically clears a $25 cap and fools nobody in the room. The useful range is the top half of the band, and the useful buy inside it is a thing that normally sells for forty and is currently twenty-two — better than a thing that has always cost twenty-four, and two dollars cheaper.

What the $25 cap actually does to pricing

Sellers know about the cap. Products get repriced to $24.99 in November with no history of ever having sold there, and the strikethrough beside them is doing all of the damn work. We score against the ninety-day selling record, so a November reprice earns nothing from us at all.

The genuinely good buys in this band are usually products from a higher band that have fallen into it, rather than products that live here. Those are the ones at the top of the grid, because a bigger damn fall scores higher.
